28 November Appreciation Lunch

We had a good gathering of Parent Volunteers who met to celebrate yet another year of meaningful involvement with the school. Thank you parents for spending your precious Saturday morning with us! Thanks to various EXCO members for helping to get the invitation out to our parent volunteers. We also would like to appreciate our 2009 Chairman and Vice-Chairman for their generosity in hosting the lunch!
It was a good time expressing in songs, our thanks to God for His goodness. Wise words in sharing of experiences by fellow parents and Guest-of-Honor, Pastor Rebecca Ding, encourages more significant partnership. The school staff members' support in room arrangement, audio visual system and photography sessions allowed us to enjoy a comfortable event.
I am grateful to the school's principal for going through great length with her dedicated staff, Mr Kelvin Chia in the design and production of the "You Are Important" buttons. Yes, it incurred time and expenses. But our parent volunteers ...mattered! Thank you for pressing on even when the going gets tough in fulfilling this commitment to supply the buttons for this special event. The story seems to have struck a cord with some folks present. Hopefully, it will motivate us to value the people around and not take each other for granted. Have you told someone "You are Important" yet? Do come back and tell us your story be it big or small. Bless others with your life!

Welcome

I was reading a chinese comprehension passage with my P6 child and was challenged by the message conveyed. I want to share it with you.
A teacher invited the students to come forward and presented a ribbon and badge telling them "You Are Important". After that, each student was given 3 more sets to give away to other people who are important to them. A student thought about a neighbor who had been helping him with his school work and decided to give it the 3 sets to him. This neighbor took it graciously and was briefed to pass the other 2 sets to someone else who are important to him. He thought of his boss who although had been rather grumpy, but was very creative in his work. He accepted it and was thinking about who to give that 3rd set to. When he got home, he went to his son and apologise for not spending enough time with him because of his work commitment and told him,
"You are important."
His son broke down and wept. Through his tears and sobs, he confided that he had actually planned to run away from home that night because he did not know if he mattered to this family. But he did not need to carry out his plan because he knew the answer now.

Each person is valuable and important. But it is unfortunate that many do not feel that way! As It would be appropriate to tell parent volunteers at our Appreciation Lunch, "You Are Important", I thought it would be so meaningful to propagate a positive message in our community. Hence this project is born.

This blog is set up for you to share your own experience of sharing this positive statement with people in your life! Go ahead and tell us. You can bless others with your story too.
